01 · The Challenge
What Problem Did This Project Solve?
A marketplace is easy to sketch and hard to make correct when real money and live animals are involved.
- Five different ways to transact — fixed-price sale, live auction, silent auction, buyer requests and butchering orders — each with its own state machine.
- Live auctions must stay synchronised across every bidder in real time; a stale bid feed means disputed sales.
- Money has to be held rather than transferred — funds sit in escrow until the buyer confirms receipt, so wallet state and order state must never drift apart.
- A single animal can be split across multiple buyers by share or by cut, which complicates both inventory and settlement.
- Post-purchase fulfilment is physical: slaughtering method, cut specification, packing and delivery all have to be captured and tracked.
- Arabic-first RTL throughout, including numerals and date formatting, with a working English alternative.
- Saudi payment integration — Al Rajhi acquiring, mada and 3-D Secure — where every failure mode has to be handled explicitly.

One app with five trading modes over a wallet that holds funds until the buyer is satisfied.
- Five trading modes in a single interface: direct sale, live auction, silent auction, buyer requests, and butchering and processing.
- Real-time bidding over WebSockets so every participant sees the same auction state.
- An escrow wallet that holds the buyer's money until receipt is confirmed, keeping sellers honest and buyers protected.
- Split purchasing so one animal can be sold by share or by cut across several buyers.
- A full fulfilment flow — slaughtering method, cut specification, packing and delivery — carried through from purchase to doorstep.
- Genuine Arabic RTL with Arabic-Indic numerals and a full English alternative.
- Saudi payment rails: Al Rajhi Bank acquiring with mada and 3-D Secure.
- In-app buyer-seller chat with push notifications, added in the 2.0 line.
